Hyundai Accent World Rally Car - W3 MSD

Andy Fenwick, owner of Lincolnshire based NEC Security Forms, competes in National and International tarmac rallies in a Hyundai World Rally Car.

The car, W3 MSD, is an ex-Hyundai Works World Rally Championship (WRC) car, as driven by Kenneth Erikkson in 2000 and 2001.

Andy Fenwick travelled, with his Team, to Northern France for the Rallye de la Lys on March 29 and 30th, 2013.

Andy was paired with a new, but very experienced Belgian co-driver, Geert Grooten for the 30th Anniversary of this incredibly popular tarmac rally.

The Kumho Tyres supported Hyundai WRC car was seeded #4 from 150 starters.

The crew settled in cautiously during the first 3 stages and arrived at re-group lying 4th overall.

They started the second loop of stages optimistically, but on Stage 5 during an approach to a square left, flat out in 6th gear, the car suffered total brake failure. The crew luckily avoided a house with inches to spare; the car spinning, tearing off a front wheel and finally coming to a halt after bouncing from a hedge. Andy and Geert were understandably shaken but OK, quickly extracting themselves from the terminally damaged car to warn other competitors.

Andy said “Right from the off my new co-driver Geert and I got on really well, we just clicked. The car felt great then my worst nightmare happened, I thought it was brake failure, but once the car was back in the UK, dismantled and inspected, it appears as if the wheel studs sheared”...

“We’re about to begin the rebuild and will definitely be competing in France again, the organisers worked very hard to run the event and the French spectators love Andy Fenwick, Subaru WRC, Epyntour car”

Andy has previously owned a number of rally cars, including an ex-Richard Burns Subaru Impreza WRC car and a factory Skoda Octavia World Rally Car.
